Angus Council - Youth Bytes Bus

12th August 2004
Angus Council provide remote learning and satellite internet services to rural communities in Scotland.

Angus Council wanted to bring together rural communities in both the highlands and the lowlands of Scotland and provide them with evening and weekend classes. These classes were in order to introduce IT and internet access to adults and children and to provide an environment that stimulated learning.

Brownstone IT developed a purpose built IT bus equipped with 9 laptops and a satellite dish providing the broadband connection. This mobile vehicle also included a local area network to enable all the laptops to be linked. A wireless network was also established to provide internet access to any building that was within 800m of the stationary bus. Brownstone also provided a server which incorporated content filtering, anti virus, firewall, data caching and IP acceleration to provide a secure and fast service for the end user.
