Road Safety

A problem that both Road Safety and the Construction Skills Council identified was the testing meant employees had to take a day off work to visit the test centres. The solution was to test the workforce on site thus saving employee time and the construction company money.

Brownstone, was invited to help create this mobile solution. The tests are online so internet access was required. To achieve this we mounted a mobile satellite dish to the roof of the prototype bus.

A requirement for a test centre is for the candidates to be remotely monitored. Brownstone installed CCTV cameras at each work station and in the lobby of the bus allowing the governing body CITB real time access to the candidates. In addition a phone was supplied so that the invigilators could be contacted directly should the need arise.

A stringent series of tests were set to evaluate the mobile test centre which proved it to be a viable alternative to the fixed test centres.

In April 2009 Road Safety was awarded the license. They plan now to build 10 mobile test centres during the next 12 months and Brownstone IT is retained to provide all IT services and satellite connectivity.
