Streaming Media Services
September 2009
SMS is an independent production company who provide webcast and streaming services for the sports, business and cultural events. Their clients' online present benefit from fresh content through live stremas and offering TV on demand, often for events that haven't been televised thereby driving traffic and sponsorship to their websites.
SMS came up with the concept of broadcasting from different sporting events early in 2009. The idea is to make it as easy as possible for the client to have live video feeds on their website. SMS have developed a virtual shell program that is easily imbedded into a website. However, in reality this is a pointer back to the SMS servers; using this method the bandwidth can be guaranteed and reduces the risk of crashing the clients web site.
Further to this SMS wanted to provide an end to end service for their clients. They needed to be able to record the event in HD, have multiple audio and video feeds and broadcast it back to their servers. This is where BrownstoneIT was asked to help. In order to achieve all this, SMS needed an outdoor broadcasting truck. This would allow them to travel from event to event while being completely independent from the local on-site infrastructure. They would be able to record, edit and stream the final production back from any location to their offices in South Wales. BrownstoneIT helped SMS from the outset. SMS needed a partner with experience in both vehicle building and IP satellite broadcasting services. Brownstone were delighted to design a solution that met tight budgetary requirements including; the fabrication of the vehicle, desks, chairs, providing power that would operate the vehicle for 3 days without the need for charging and, of course, a top end satellite system that would allow the client to broadcast high quality video with a bandwidth service that could be turned up or down depending on the size of the event they where broadcasting. All this was achieved within a very tight time frame and within budget. Russell Isaac Managing director of SMS said :- " Our aim from the outset was to provide a professional, broadcast quality product for a wide variety of clients at a reasonable price - from sporting events to concerts to conferences. Brownstone from the very beginning provided top-class advice, guidance and practical implementation that culminated in SMS assembling a one-stop streaming and recording unit. Its already impressing our current clients and opening doors into new markets" ![]() < back |
