Coleg Gwent broadband communication trailer

Background
In South Wales, like many other places in the UK, traditional industries like steel-making and coal, have largely gone. There is a need for re-training to prepare people for the changes they will have to make to adapt for the new work-place. Coleg Gwent has a major role to play in this effort, and seeks to repeat the success of the “Drop-in centres” already set up in town centres.

The College believes the use of familiar locations such as village halls and pubs would make its courses more accessible, and achieve attendance rates similar to those seen by the drop-in centres.

The College contacted BrownstoneIT to have broadband delivered to suitable out-of-town locations. Broadband delivered by a communications trailer was considered to be the most appropriate solution.

The trailer

The trailer delivers broadband communication within a few minutes of arrival on site.

The broadband signal is shared with nearby laptops or PCs by means of a wired or a wireless network. This allows lessons to be given in any convenient hall.

Security is assured through the BrownstoneIT Net Security Gateway with:

• Hardware Firewall
• Two Anti-Virus programs
• Content Filtering
• Anti-spam
• IP acceleration

The trailer can be towed by a car and is small enough to be parked in a single bay in a car park.

All the electrical equipment is rack-mounted in a lockable cabinet, for security.

The BrownstoneIT service is complete, including installation and commissioning. We normally install a month after receipt of order, but we can move more quickly, if needed.
