Laser and infra-red solutions

BrownstoneIT offers both laser and infra-red optical links. Both use light as the communication medium so neither requires a radio license and both are immune to radio interference and interception. They both benefit from a low-cost of installation with no digging required but both require line-of-sight connectivity.

Laser Link Systems

BrownstoneIT laser products set a new standard for Free Space Optical transmission systems. The range incorporates a lightweight, compact design with factory pre-set opticals, making it simple and easy to install. A 100 Mbps hop can be connected in within half a day hour to an existing network.

BrownstoneIT laser is more competitively priced than 2.4 GHz radio, and its performance is up to a hundred times faster. Our range offers cost effective, reliable and secure laser based free space optical transmission for local area networks (LAN) with Fast Ethernet speed of 100 Mbps. The transmission carries data using a concentrated laser beam and a unique modulation technique is employed to ensure error free data transfer over distances of up to 5km. Virtually zero latency ensures that the system can be easily integrated into any environment. Since all our laser systems use light as the transmission medium this means that frequency licenses are not required and transmission is not affected by electromagnetic interference. Data transmission via a laser beam is secure as it is extremely hard to intercept, and cannot be detected by spectrum analysers. The BrownstoneIT laser system comprises of two Laser Heads – one at each end of the link– and the supporting hardware. The Laser Heads are installed indoors or outdoors, usually on rooftops or sidewalls of buildings. They need a clear line of sight between the two locations. The links are available with a factory set, operating range. The system is a standalone all-in-one solution, which requires no additional hardware for operation. The power supply is connected directly to the laser head which features 100BaseTX interface for network connection. Each BIT Laser head contains built-in transmission monitoring service. The Power-On LED, Optical Link Status, Ethernet Link/Received Data and Optical Level indicators provide useful information for troubleshooting. The Optical Level OK and Saturation indicators provide guidance for use during system installation.

Infra-red Light Emitting Diodes

The BrownstoneIT Series of light emitting infra-red diodes (LED) wireless links provide a cost-effective, last-mile solution, ideal for crossing highways, parking lots, rivers etc. with no digging or planning required. This results in rapid installation.

Using eye safe infra-red technology with an ULTRA WIDE beam, the system has interfaces for data, voice and mixed media. The beam is up to 10 times wider than laser technology and compensates for building sway, bypassing the need for auto-tracking or auto-acquisition, allowing for installations on communications towers and tall buildings.

The BrownstoneIT system is a seamless replacement for fibre or cable which means you can eliminate local loop charges. Applications include, LAN, WAN or PBX extensions.

It’s also licence free. With no interference issues the LED is an attractive alternative to microwave or radio frequency systems.

The products provide connectivity from E1/T1, 4 x E1/T1, 10 Mbps Ethernet, Multiplex (E1/T1 plus 10 Mbps), to 100 Mbps/155 Mbps Clear Channel.
